KEEPING MOTHERS & INFANTS TOGETHER FUND
Supporting Mothers In Need
The National Safe Haven Alliance (NSHA) receives hundreds of calls every year from mothers in need of temporary, short-term support. In an effort to meet this community need, NSHA launched the Keeping Mothers and Infants Together Fund (KMITF)! This special program is designed for families soon to deliver their baby or that have an infant up to 30 days of age.

It is an all-too-common reality that mothers or parents contact NSHA when they have reached an all-time-low as shown through their current situations and lack of support systems. Often these callers are mothers who feel that relinquishing their infant under the Safe Haven Law is their only option. NSHA is here to change that reality through our KMITF.

In many of these cases, mothers are considering needlessly surrendering their infants due to a lack of family support, socioeconomic challenges, inadequate daycare options, or temporary challenges making ends meet. Our goal is to walk with a mother, hand-in-hand, to provide the support she so desperately needs while supporting her choice to parent her infant with compassion, empathy, and kindness in mind.

With the support of donors such as yourself, NSHA is able to assist these mothers in need, while Keeping Mothers and Infants Together. Through our three-tiered communication model (parenting, adoption, & Safe Haven), our team creates a safe and open dialogue that is required when facing a crisis. During this communication process, NSHA will work with the mother to determine her immediate needs and begin the intervention process.

Commonly, the most immediate needs are directly related to the mother’s lacking support system - an element that is specific to a mother’s community and local resources. NSHA will research the support available in the mother’s community and connect her with organizations such as state agencies, DES, pregnancy centers, churches, local and state pregnancy support programs, and others providing basic-needs. By connecting a mother to these various outlets and offering her on-going support, NSHA is able to create long-term and sustainable solutions that maintain the mother’s ability to parent her chid(ren).
With your donations, NSHA is able to provide financial and in-kind assistance to mothers in need. These supplies include items such:
